Understanding the Connection Between Mind and Learning

When learning is in question, our brain is the most significant organ working actively on a structural and functional level. Learning is defined as the activity of gaining knowledge, values, feelings, skills, options or behaviours. When learning is in question, our brain is the most significant organ working actively on a structural and functional level. Learning is defined as the activity of gaining knowledge, values, feelings, skills, options or behaviours. This process is the same for changing existing knowledge and skills, as well as acquiring new gains. An immensely complicated organ, our brain has been the subject of neuro-science for more than 30 years while research has shown us how our brain learns in scientific terms.

Learning can sometimes take place without actual cognitive awareness. This might be due to the individual’s observational skills, emotional attachments, focusing issues and other environmental factors. Therefore, it’s perfectly expectable for the brain to be affected by the experience of the individual. In other words, no matter how we think we are not affected by a certain experience, it’s quite possible the experience had influence on our thoughts or behaviours.

One can adopt various learning methods without necessarily dwelling on cognitive psychology. The best of these methods are those compatible with the structure of the brain. It’s not possible for us not to engage in the activity of gaining new knowledge, in the process of which our brain works systematically.

When we want to learn something new, there forms a connection between the neurons in our brain. The stronger the connection between the neurons, the permanent the learning becomes.

Function of the Lobes in the Brain

We have always been wondering about the brain and its structure as well as the entire neurological system of all living beings. Thanks to regular improvements regarding cognitive neuroscience studies and research, we are able to find out how to use our brain more efficiently

Brain has five main lobes where the functions help us to learn are organised. Brain does this by managing all the neuro-networks in the central neuro-system. The front lobe is for consciously thinking where central-side lobe is for emotional control and awareness. The sense of seeing is controlled by the back lobe sitting behind the cerebellum where our movements are made possible with the help of all senses co-ordinated, of course, by the brain. Lastly, the temporal lobes are for hearing and taste.

The Importance of Emotional State During Learning

During any learning activity, it’s possible for 100 billion neurons working together in co-ordination. Emotions and emotional state are quite important when it comes to efficient learning. Emotions help tranfer information to the neurons while also working with the senses. Neurons which interact with the senses pass through the hippocampal area and register onto the cortex where there is limitless capacity. This area is where many functions such as speaking, reading, writing, thinking and learning are organised and made possible. With each new learning experience, for the information to have a long life, the signals received by the cortex need to be stronger. Those with an interest in learning can actually have all lobes working simultaneously. Hence the learning process is faster and results are better.

The left lobe of our brain works mainly for analytic thinking, establishing cause and effect, mathematical calculations and exploring details. The right lobe is more about emotions, social activities and it helps learning by engaging visual facts with information.
