Joe Marler is a former England rugby union prop, podcast host and mental health advocate. He won 95 England caps between 2012 and 2024, toured with the British & Irish Lions in 2017 and spent his entire club career at Harlequins, where he made 204 appearances.
With Harlequins he won the European Challenge Cup in 2011 and the Premiership in 2012 and 2021. With England he won three Six Nations titles, in 2016, 2017 and 2020, and the 2020 Autumn Nations Cup, and reached the 2019 Rugby World Cup final. He retired from international rugby and from Harlequins in November 2024 and now works as Player Liaison Officer for England Rugby.
Joe has spoken openly about his own mental health, and that honesty has become central to his work off the pitch. He is an ambassador for CALM, the Campaign Against Living Miserably. In 2021 he made the Sky Sports documentary Big Boys Don't Cry, travelling across the UK to learn how others look after their mental wellbeing and opening a conversation that many men in sport and business had avoided.
He co-hosts the podcast Joe Marler's Things People Do with Tom Fordyce, meeting ordinary people who do extraordinary things. The show has sold out live dates at the Clapham Grand and headlined the Apollo. He also hosts Joe Marler Will See You Now, a celebrity interview podcast built on probing questions and unconventional challenges.
In autumn 2025 he reached the final of The Celebrity Traitors, which brought him to a new, wider audience. His 2020 book Loose Head: Confessions of an (un)professional rugby player sets out, with the same candour, what life at the top of professional sport looks like from the inside.
On stage Joe is most at home in conversation. Audiences get the stories behind a long international career, a frank account of managing mental health under pressure and a sense of humour that keeps the room with him. His sessions suit organisations that want to make it easier for people, and men in particular, to talk about how they are really doing.
