Spencer Kelly
Spencer Kelly's Biography

Spencer Kelly is the BBC’s longest serving and most experienced technology presenter and journalist. He’s been hosting Click, the BBC Technology TV programme since 2006, and for more than 20 years has travelled the world, marvelling at how science and innovation is changing people’s lives. His academic background (a double first in Computer Science from Cambridge and an Honorary Doctorate in Technology) is only the beginning of his accolades - he’s also won the T3 Tech Personality of the Year award, he came a cruel second on Celebrity Mastermind, fronted Panorama, presented at the BAFTAs, and hosted a three world firsts - the world’s first 360 show in virtual reality, the world’s first TV show filmed and edited solely on a mix of phones and tablets, and he fought a wizard in the world’s first multi-choice factual choose your own adventure programme that lets the viewer choose their path through the stories. His life-long love affair with science and tech has seen him play a robot at ping-pong in Japan, explore the Large Hadron Collider, get rescued by a robot lifeguard, visit the Anti-matter factory,  and discover the life-changing impact of just one SIM card in the townships of Africa. He’s also chatted to the biggest names in the business - Bill Gates, James Cameron, Paul McCartney, Will.I.Am, Brian Eno, Julian Assange, Edward Snowden, David Attenborough, Stephen Fry, and even talked tech with HM Queen Elizabeth II. WHY SPENCER? First-hand experience: After specialising in AI at university, Spencer has documented its rise for the BBC, and now uses his deep understanding of the subject to explain how AI has been quietly changing the world for decades. He’s an expert in Generative AI – using Large Language Models to make music albums and short films, write computer code, and – believe it or not – perform improv comedy. Clarity: Spencer has decades of experience writing and presenting explainers on how AI is used in phones, home appliances and self-driving cars.  Interactive: Spencer uses his up-to-date knowledge of the subject to give interactive AI demonstrations live on-stage, to show the power of the technology. Perspective: Right now, employees wonder if AI will replace them, while companies struggle to assess how useful and valuable it will be for their sector. With an abundance of hype out there, Spencer’s practical know-how and direct experience help cut through the noise to show what AI can actually do, and -just as importantly – what it can’t. When you book Spencer, you get more than a speaker; you get an expert, an educator, and an entertainer whose passion for the subject is infectious. He brings the latest thinking to the table, along with the practical tools your team can use to boost productivity. This isn’t just a job for Spencer; it’s a lifelong fascination he explores constantly, whether he’s writing about the future of AI or creating AI-generated music about cats for his daughter. YOUR OUTCOMES When Spencer discusses AI, audiences leave with: A clear understanding: What’s going on under the bonnet of AI is incredibly complicated, but Spencer has perfected a way of clearly explaining the fundamentals, without the jargon Confidence to Lead: Spencer will help you understand where AI will work within your business, and what you need to make the most of it. An action plan: Tangible ideas and next steps to help you prepare your business for AI integration. Fearlessness: AI is an incredibly powerful tool, and these are exciting times. Spencer will help break through the uncertainty to show how AI will assist, rather than replace, the next generation of workers.
